Behind the Scenes of Indie Streamers at Leytonstone Loves Film
On Saturday 18th September I, with the help of the Barbican team, will curate a day long installation celebrating three platforms curating and streaming bespoke content.
The installation will run from 12-8pm at Leytonstone Library and at 6:30pm you can join an exclusive Q&A where the creators of each platform will be discussing their experiences of creating their own websites and maintaining their platforms. The Q&A will be super handy for those who want to create their own platforms.
Please have a look at the platforms below and reserve your ticket for Q&A here.
FEATURED PLATFORMS
GOOD WICKEDRY is an online cinema platform driven by carefully considered curation. We want to cut through the noise of excessive content by highlighting one great thing at a time, showing one film per week.
These bold and invigorating choices can be new or old, from any genre, and any format, with an especial focus on shorts - narrative films, docs, art vids, music vids, experimental, animation, etc. Platforming of BIPOC and female filmmakers is also of especial importance. This variety will build a stronger and more nuanced, but also universal, picture of the make-up of our cinematic world.

REFORM THE FUNK is an independent cultural platform created in a bid to reform basic social structures, challenging the status quo by promoting thought-provoking and emotive art. Ours is an outlet to feature the cultural taste-makers today, unveil those fighting against cultural malaise across the planet, and enlighten, through discourse and collaborative efforts. The aim of the space is to provide a narrative that represents culture in its true respect.
In typical mainstream media, many taste-makers are forgone, despite having a huge influence and presence in their respective communities, if they are yet to be labelled as popular or trendy. In contrast, this platform's purpose is to provide a genuine insight into inspiring people worldwide, regardless of their prevalence.
Reform The Funk delivers in-depth content which can serve as a cultural reference for ideas and inspiration. A platform for tastemakers – Reform The Funk – for those who influence popular culture.

About the Creator:
Hi, I’m Caroline from UNDR LNDN and I wanted to push myself.
I had to ask myself what I was looking for and what excited me. Excited me even being someone who creates and curates entertainment for a living. What could be a valuable contribution to the festival?
It took me a while to think and I was transparent with the team that I needed time. I heard a quote once by the Great Nipsey Hussle; “kids spell love T-I-M-E”.
I knew I needed time. To be honest, I was feeling exhausted by what once fuelled me. The streaming era was something I once loved and then I felt I was unable to keep up with. I felt out of touch with the platforms but yet still subscribed to most of them. I ended up watching less and less.
Yet I still created and curated and was trying to find that spark again. My experimental mindset was seeing some of my friends start up their own streaming sites and I was inspired. Could this be the GRM Daily or SBTV for film? I love subcultures, not just to be different but to say something. I was looking for some more niche content, something more curated. If I was looking for something to watch, I didn't want to spend 90 minutes doing it.
I started to think about curating a installation and celebrating these local creatives who have sourced independent content and built their own websites to celebrate work that challenges the ‘mainstream’ Don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of Netflix, Prime or Now TV but I also wanted to find something new.
Please check out all the other events at the festival here and thank you to the LLF and Barbican team for making this happen.
